FAIR LAWN, N.J. (AP) - Workers in a northern New Jersey town can resume painting the water tower after a pair of nesting ravens have flown away.

Fair Lawn officials had to put the $1.5 million on hold when a resident spotted the nest on the structure and called the state last month.

Active raven nests are protected by federal and state laws.

The Record (https://bit.ly/1lAYPyN ) newspaper reports Mayor John Cosgrove confirmed with the state that it’s OK to start cleaning and painting the tower.

Officials are figuring out how much the delay will cost.
