SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have arrested a correctional officer they say plotted to smuggle marijuana and cellphones into prison.

Troopers say internal affairs investigators with the Department of Correction contacted them on Saturday after learning of the alleged plot. Police say the officer and an inmate were planning to smuggle contraband into the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Authorities say the officer was to be paid for smuggling the items into the facility. Police say a search of the officer’s vehicle turned up marijuana, cellphones and $700 in cash.

On Saturday, troopers arrested 27-year-old Darryl L. West Jr. of Bridgeville. He is charged with possession with intent to deliver prison contraband and other offenses.
