GRAND RONDE, Ore. (AP) - A tribal member from Grand Ronde raised $3,400 to purchase a bulletproof vest for tribal police dog Nixwa.

Veronica Gaston says the money also will pay for other equipment and training for the dog.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/1vsBpUl) she was prompted by the April 16 shooting in Portland that killed the police dog Mick and wounded his handler.
