AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall says the chairman’s call for him to resign is a shameful ambush in a letter that could raise tensions on the board.

Hall is facing legislative and criminal investigations over his efforts to oust University of Texas President Bill Powers. Board of Regents Chairman Paul Foster last week publicly called on Hall to resign in the best interests of the board.

Hall wrote Foster on Monday to tell him he would not quit. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter on Tuesday, in which Hall calls Foster’s move “shameful” and a “public ambush” that rallied support for him.

The regents meet by telephone Tuesday to vote on tuition rates for in-state students in the UT system.
