PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Jackson County is drafting a letter to the city of Ocean Springs recommending it move the damaged portion of the Front Beach boardwalk closer to the seawall, which is designed to withstand wave action.
The city owns the sidewalk — part of a $2.2 million walkable Ocean Springs project — but the county is responsible for maintaining the beach that supports it.
Last week, the county hauled in 2,000 cubic yards of sand to replenish the portion of the beach that had eroded to and undermined the sidewalk. But a portion of it collapsed anyway.
Board of Supervisors President Troy Ross tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/R3m1NF ) on Monday the best idea for that section of the sidewalk would be to tie it back into the seawall as an anchor.
