UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) - A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a man has been fatally shot outside a convenience store in University Place, Washington, near Tacoma.

Spokesman Ed Troyer says two men were seen running away after the Tuesday afternoon shooting.

The News Tribune reports that Troyer says officers have identified the 28-year-old man but did not immediately release his name.

Based on the area’s history and weapons at the scene, Troyer says it’s likely the shooting was drug- or gang-related.

The spokesman says the man was found down an embankment that is not visible from the road or nearby businesses.
