MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - University of Montana athletic director Kent Haslam says he plans a national search to replace men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle, who resigned after eight seasons to become the men’s basketball coach at Oregon State.

Haslam says he doesn’t have a timetable for naming a replacement, but will take as long as it takes to get “the very best coach.” He says with the foundation Tinkle has set, there will be tremendous interest in the post. He notes Tinkle joins former Griz coach Larry Krystkowiak in the Pac-12 Conference.

The Missoulian reports (https://bit.ly/1oNWwOY) Tinkle had one year remaining on his contract, meaning either he or OSU is responsible for a nearly $140,000 buyout.

Tinkle had been head coach at Montana for eight seasons, after five seasons as an assistant.
