Officials say Iowa inmate died of natural causes

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) - Officials say an Iowa inmate has died of natural causes.

The state Department of Corrections says 45-year-old Lonnie Joe Griffiths died Saturday at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville after he was discovered unresponsive during a special room check. He died of natural causes from coronary artery disease.

Griffiths was serving time for a drug charge out of Des Moines county. His sentence began in September 2010.
