SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Sioux City Council has accepted the donation of 13 bronze busts that will represent minority and marginalized groups in the area.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1kmdjWe ) the council approved the donation Monday.

The busts by sculptor Mark Avery, of McCook Lake, South Dakota, will be mounted on pedestals alongside a downtown parking structure and bus center. A plaque will be placed beside each bust, explaining why the individual is being honored.

The Celebrating Community Foundation is overseeing fundraising for the project, which is estimated to cost $540,000. LeeAnn Kurtz Gill, a member of the project’s steering committee, says the group has raised about $150,000.

Avery says the sculptures could be finished by next spring, with installation in fall 2015.
