PAYSON, Ariz. (AP) - Crews are battling a forest fire east of Payson in northern Arizona.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest officials say the fire was reported about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on the Black Mesa Ranger District near Woods Canyon Lake, which is 30 miles east of Payson.

By 4 p.m., the fire had grown to 150 acres and is burning ponderosa pine on fairly flat ground.

Authorities say no structures are threatened, but several campers had to be evacuated from the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Forest Service firefighters, several engines and a helicopter are on scene with additional resources ordered.

The helicopter was getting water from the lake and making drops on the fire before nightfall.
