HICKORY, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have arrested two people in Catawba County after they led police on a chase and one of them shot at officers in a Hickory neighborhood.

Police say 34-year-old James Brandon Smith of Newton faces six felony charges, including assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer. Also, 34-year-old Erin Olivia Shell of Hickory is charged with felony aiding and abetting and misdemeanor driving with a revoked license.

Smith was captured Wednesday after a chase into woods during which police said three shots were fired at officers in pursuit.

It began when police received a call about a Jeep Cherokee being stolen from a convenience store parking lot. Investigators said surveillance video showed the suspects driving into the parking lot in a Ford Expedition and leaving in the Cherokee.
