ATLANTA (AP) - Three legislative races across Georgia remained too close to call after Tuesday’s night Republican primary.
Greg Kirk had a small lead over Bryce Johnson in the GOP primary for state Senate District 13. The incumbent, state Sen. John Crosby of Tifton, decided to step down this year. Meanwhile, state Rep. Greg Morris of Vidalia, held a 70-vote lead over a challenger, Lee Burton, with all precincts reporting.
The Republican primary to find a successor to Senate Majority Leader Ronnie Chance of Tyrone was headed to a runoff between the first and second-place finishers, Republican Marty Harbin and David Studdard. However, Studdard was leading the third-place finisher, Bill Johnston, by less than 1 percent of the total vote. Under state law, losing candidates can request a recount if they trail by 1 percent or less.
Four Republican incumbents lost their seats in the primary: Sen. Don Balfour of Snellville, Rep. Sam Moore of Ball Ground, Rep. Charles Gregory of Kennesaw and Rep. Willie Talton of Warner Robins. The Senate Democratic Leader, Steve Thompson of Tucker, also lost.
