SANDY, Ore. (AP) - With fire trucks on their way, a deputy sheriff in Clackamas County wrestled a confused man to safety through the smoke in a burning house.

The sheriff’s office says Deputy Dustin Cochran saw smoke coming from the house Wednesday morning, called in the fire, and then learned from people outside that a man was in the house.

Cochran says he found a 76-year-old man in a bedroom, apparently confused and perhaps unaware of the fire. Cochran says the man struggled at first and had to be pulled from the house.

Firefighters put out the fire. They said they hadn’t yet determined what caused it. At least seven people were displaced.
