CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Hendrix College senior Elizabeth Krug has been named the 2014 regional athlete of the year.

Krug was selected for the honor by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South/Southeast Region.

The Heber Springs native - who also won the award last year - scored 52.75 points at the Southern Athletic Association Championships, winning the javelin and 400 meter hurdles.

Krug is the region’s top-ranked heptathlete with a score of 4,539. She’ll defend her national title as the 11th seed at this year’s NCAA Championships in Delaware, Ohio, on Thursday and Friday.

Freshman Victoria Amadi will compete Saturday in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the triple jump.
