AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services is asking a consultant to resubmit a report after a newspaper found that portions were taken from another organization’s work.

Commissioner Mary Mayhew said in a statement Wednesday that it has asked the Alexander Group to correct and resubmit the report on Maine’s Medicaid and welfare programs.

The Bangor Daily News reported that some paragraphs of the report released last week were copied from Center on Budget and Policy Priorities documents. The Alexander Group did cite CBPP, but didn’t make clear that it was quoting its work.

Democrats say the state’s nearly $1 million contract with the group should be canceled.

Gary Alexander, who leads the group, said in statement that it failed to ensure footnotes were included and regrets the errors.
