OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma House has passed a proposed $2.4 billion budget for elementary and secondary schools in the state for the upcoming year.
The House approved the budget bill 85-9 Wednesday and sent it to the state Senate for consideration.
The budget proposal for the fiscal year that begins July 1 is $80 million more than the education budget for the current year. Local school districts will also receive a $25 million supplemental appropriation for the current fiscal year for reimbursement of taxes on property that is exempt from local taxation.

Among other things, the bill sets budget limits of about $1.8 billion for the financial support of public schools, $580 million for additional program areas and $22 million for the Oklahoma Department of Education.
