RHINELANDER, Wis. (AP) - The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest’s recreational trails are all open again - just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

The all-terrain vehicle, horse and bike trails were closed for a time to avoid erosion and rutting of the trails because of the saturated soil. Forest managers say protecting the recreational trails during the spring reduces the chance the trails will be closed during the high-use season to repair damage.

Some trails in the forest that weren’t in danger of being damaged opened earlier.

The forest’s website has a map of U.S. Forest Service trails and roads.
