FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says the death of a 5-year-old Forsyth County girl is being investigated as a homicide.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang said in a statement that Heaven Woods, who died Tuesday, was killed by blunt force trauma to her abdomen and that an autopsy revealed she was suffering from both new and old injuries.

Investigators say Heaven’s mother, 33-year-old Amanda Hendrickson, and 34-year-old Roderick Buckner, are both charged with cruelty to children. Lang says Hendrickson has also been charged with giving a false statement. Authorities say additional charges are expected to be filed, and the couple is being held without bond in the Monroe County Justice Center.

It’s unclear if Hendrickson and Buckner have attorneys.
