ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Coast Guard officials say a Good Samaritan has rescued six people after their fishing boat caught fire in the waters off of St. Augustine.

Officials say the six men jumped into a life raft Thursday morning after their 37-foot boat caught fire. Another boater found the men and helped bring them safely to shore. One of the victims suffered a leg injury.

A mayday from the boat only gave officials a partial GPS location before the men lost their signal. But the boaters were able to use another device that transmits an electronic emergency distress signal and GPS coordinates, which allows rescuers to pinpoint a boater’s exact location and ID the vessel and its owner.

Coast Guard officials later searched for the men’s boat but believe it sank.
