FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Department of Education says the state has been recognized for its policy on computer science education.

The agency says a computer science course can qualify as a fourth math course or as an elective science course if it meets certain standards.

Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says computer science education benefits even students who don’t plan to pursue that career path by developing computational and critical thinking skills.

The state was recognized by Code.org, a national nonprofit organization that promotes computer science education and computer programming or coding.
