Alison Lundergan Grimes, who is running for Senate in Kentucky, called Thursday for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to resign, becoming the latest Democrat to join a growing chorus of GOP lawmakers saying a leadership change is in order.

“We owe a solemn obligation to our veterans, and our government defaulted on that contract,” she said in a statement. “I don’t see how that breach of trust with our veterans can be repaired if the current leadership stays in place.”

Ms. Grimes is the current secretary of state in Kentucky and will challenge Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in November.

Georgia Democratic Reps. John Barrow and David Scott on Wednesday were the first in the party to call for Mr. Shinseki to step down.
