MOSCOW (AP) - Former Soviet football heavyweight Torpedo Moscow returned to the Russian Premier League after winning a playoff on Thursday. Newcomer FC Ufa was also promoted.

Torpedo drew 0-0 away to Krylya Sovetov Samara to complete a 2-0 aggregate win in the promotion-relegation playoff, and condemn Krylya to its first season outside the top division since 1991.

Until relegation in 2006, Torpedo spent 78 straight years in the top division, winning three Soviet titles.

Recent years have seen the club battle to regain its traditional stadium, and endure two seasons in the regional amateur leagues.

In the other playoff, Ufa completed a 6-4 aggregate win over Premier League side Tom Tomsk despite losing the second leg 3-1.

As well as Torpedo and Ufa, two other sides, Mordovia Saransk and Arsenal Tula, earlier secured promotion automatically.
