SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - Chile goalkeeper Johnny Herrera has been cleared to play for the national team at the World Cup despite an ongoing legal case.

A court in Chile said Friday that Herrera must check in monthly instead of going to prison while it is determined whether he breached a driving ban. The goalkeeper was sentenced to 41 days in jail in 2013 and a two-year ban from driving after he was arrested for driving under the influence.

Herrera ran over and killed a 22-year-old woman in 2009 while he was speeding. He walked free after the trial was suspended because of a settlement with the victim’s family.

The 33-year-old Universidad de Chile goalkeeper is a likely reserve under coach Jorge Sampaoli if he makes the final 23-man squad for Brazil.
