BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Friends and family of a New York Air National Guardsman who was seriously injured in an apparent push down a bar staircase say they are hoping for a miracle.

Tech Sgt. William Sager Jr. suffered a severe brain injury and has been unconscious and hospitalized since the May 11 encounter at Molly’s Pub in Buffalo.

On Friday, his fiancee, Erika Webster, was at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park with his father and other service members. They thanked the community for its support and asked for continued prayers.

The manager of Molly’s Pub, Jeffrey Basil, has pleaded not guilty to assault. Two off-duty Buffalo police officers who had been working as outside security are suspended without pay during the ongoing investigation.
