HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Danny Young and Justin Shafer shut down Mississippi State’s offense to lead Florida to a 5-1 victory Friday night, keeping the top-seeded Gators alive in the Southeastern Conference tournament.

The Gators (39-20) must beat Kentucky on Saturday to make the championship game. They’ve won three straight since opening with a 4-2 defeat to the Wildcats, who got a day to rest.

Young pitched 4-1/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Shafer (1-0), who kept up the tough pitching. Shafer went the rest of the way and allowed one run on two hits.

Harrison Bader had three hits for Florida while Peter Alonso drove in two runs. Braden Mattson tripled and walked twice.

The Bulldogs (37-22) got their only run in the eighth. They scored on two singles and a sacrifice fly by Brett Pirtle to bring home Matthew Britton.

C.T. Bradford had three hits for Mississippi State.
