UNION CITY, N.J. (AP) - Extra police officers are on hand one day after an intruder triggered lockdowns at two schools in northern New Jersey.

Police locked down Daniel Webster Elementary School in Weehawken Thursday after security cameras captured images of a man believed to have caused a lockdown at a school in Union City earlier Thursday.

Police say the man was found around 8 a.m. Thursday rummaging through a desk in a secretary’s office in the basement of George Washington Elementary School.

Union City Police Chief Richard Molinari said the man fled into a stairwell and exited the building.

Weehawken Public Safety Director Jeff Welz tells The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/1lHWoKL ) police believe the same man got into the Webster school.
