POMFRET, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut state police dog combing through the ruins of a home destroyed by an overnight fire in Pomfret has found the remains of one person.

Police on Saturday said investigators have not confirmed the identity of the victim. The office of the state medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, and help to verify the identity.

Police say Pomfret firefighters responding to a house on fire on Brooklyn Road found the home fully engulfed in flames early Saturday.

Firefighters searched the ruins after learning that one person was missing at the scene.

A state police dog joined the search and found the remains in the ruins.

The Pomfret fire marshal asked state police fire and explosion experts to help investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
