BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Several people turned in stacks of cash to police after they found the money scattered around Bloomington.

Bloomington police officers were called to several locations where people found money Thursday, from downtown to the Indiana 45/46 Bypass on the city’s north side.

Police in the southern Indiana city of about 82,000 people didn’t have an exact count of the cash Friday, but Sgt. Joe Crider tells The Herald Times (https://bit.ly/1k4XWx2 ) that it’s in the “high thousands.”

Police turned in money to police, court bailiffs and the mayor’s office.

A 49-year-old man checked himself into a local hospital for a mental health evaluation after telling police he had discarded the money.
