MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A jury has found a Muncie woman guilty of murder in the beating death of her 5-year-old Haitian cousin.

The Star Press reports (https://tspne.ws/Rme7Px ) that 30-year-old Charlene Tabb also was convicted Friday of neglect of a dependent resulting in death in the June 22 death of Marie Pierre. Authorities said the girl was repeatedly beaten in the weeks before she died.

Tabb also was found guilty of battery with a deadly weapon. Jurors found Tabb also beat other children in her home, including Marie’s older brother and sister who in court also acknowledged abusing her.

Defense attorney Michael Quirk told jurors the other children were responsible for Marie’s death.

Tabb was found also convicted of neglect in the care of her siblings.

Tabb’s sentencing is set for June 23.
