SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 26-year-old man has been convicted of murdering his 44-year-old girlfriend in Salt Lake County.

A 3rd District Court jury deliberated less than four hours Thursday before finding James Sanchez guilty of first-degree murder in the May 2011 death of Angela Jenkins.

Police say Sanchez repeatedly beat the woman after they got into an argument. Investigators say the abuse continued for 10 hours before the victim lost consciousness.

The medical examiner’s office found bruises over nearly all her body and concluded her cause of death was blunt force trauma and strangulation.

Sanchez’s attorney says his client was distressed because he thought Jenkins was sexually involved with his brother.

Sanchez awaits sentencing July 14.
