HIGHGATE, Vt. (AP) - The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service is advising people traveling between northern states like Vermont and Canada to expect more border traffic now that the summer season has begun.

To speed the border process, authorities suggest travelers have enhanced IDs in hand and not be on their cell phones when they approach the inspection booth.

Travelers should be ready to declare all items acquired abroad and should remove hats and sunglasses as they approach the booth.

The Know Before You Go and Advisories and Wait Times sections on the CPB.gov website can provide useful information to travelers.
