PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The former owner of Jackson County Memorial Park, a large cemetery in Pascagoula, has been given an eight-year suspended sentence and placed on probation for three years. The sentence is for misappropriation of funds and felony false pretense.

Prosecutors say 82-year-old Ruby Nell Morgan pleaded guilty in 2011 to four counts of misappropriation of funds and seven of felony false pretense. The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/SwFA2k ) the state opted to prosecute only two of the charges.

Morgan was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court.

As part of the plea, Morgan admitted taking money for headstones but failing to deliver them. Prosecutors say she also failed to set aside a percentage of the sales for perpetual care.
