LUMBERLAND, N.Y. (AP) - A Jersey City, New Jersey man is presumed to have drowned while swimming in the Delaware River in upstate New York.

The Times Herald-Record reports (https://bit.ly/1ppUB0x ) the 22-year-old disappeared around 1:45 p.m., Saturday after removing his life vest to swim.

Two people who were with the man left their rented raft and to swim after him. Park rangers and dive teams also joined the search about a mile and a half south of Barryville.

They’ve yet to locate the man’s body and will continue searching Monday.

The National Park Service is withholding the man’s name until it notifies his family.

The newspaper says the man disappeared about 50 to 100 feet from shore in the Hansom Eddy. That stretch of river is 10 to 15 feet deep.
