CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) - The U.S. Army Reserve Center in Cape Coral will be named in honor of Staff Sgt. Marc Anthony Scialdo, a soldier from Naples who died in the war in Afghanistan.

NBC-2 reports (https://bit.ly/1kby0EO) that the Army’s 81st Regional Support Command says the ceremony naming the center will be held July 12 at 10 a.m.

The 31-year-old Scialdo grew up in Naples and attended high school in Collier County.

The helicopter crew chief was killed March 11, 2013, when his Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Kandahar Province.

Scialdo was awarded the Bronze Star posthumously, as well as two Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal with combat distinguished device and four Army Achievement Medals.

The 15-acre facility is a training site for over 300 reservists.
