LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - City-parish government in Lafayette has been honored for its efforts to make the area bicyclist-friendly.

The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1js6xht ) the city and parish as well as partner organizations were cited with an honorable mention from the League of American Bicyclists under its Bicycle Friendly Community program.

The program provides guidance for communities to improve conditions for bicycling.

Communities are judged for progress in engineering, education, planning and enforcement.
