DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines-area water park year is still closed despite an announcement that it would reopen last year.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/SEn5c4 ) that Jarod Smith and his father, Craig, announced plans in 2012 to reopen White Water University in Pleasant Hill, but the plans haven’t materialized.

Jarod Smith, who operates a plumbing business, says both men are working six to seven days a week and haven’t had the time to work on the reopening. Both men hope to develop a concrete timeline for reopening the facility.

Craig Smith says he believes the park still has better amenities than other local aquatic parks. Craig Smith says the park drew between 110,000 and 120,000 customers in 2005, its last summer of operation.
