SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A woman is in the hospital after she was stabbed at a home in South Shreveport, allegedly by an elderly man she was caring for.

KSLA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1pgpDuA ) police said the victim was stabbed multiple times Tuesday. A man, identified by his family as Walter Smith, 75, was arrested. Cpl. Marcus Hines said Smith was 73 years old.

Smith was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of aggravated battery. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Hines later Tuesday identified the victim as Felicia Owens, 41. She was listed in good condition at University Health Medical Center, he said.

Owens apparently was Smith’s caretaker, Hines said.

The stabbing occurred just before 2 p.m. “It is believed Owens was working at the residence as a home health care provider for Smith when she was attacked,” Hines said.

Smith’s niece, Deborah Coleman, told KSLA that he told her after the stabbing that he “flipped out.” Coleman believes Owens has been Smith’s caretaker for the past six months.
