STANDISH, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan funeral home owner accused of taking money from his customers’ prepaid contracts has pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges.

Attorney General Bill Schuette says Richard Weishuhn (wy-ZOON’) made the pleas last week in Standish District Court. The 68-year-old owner of R.O. Savage Funeral Chapel pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement over $100,000 and one count of embezzlement over $50,000.

An investigation by Schuette’s office found that Weishuhn spent $112,000 in earmarked prepaid funeral funds for personal and business use in 2012 and $87,000 in 2011.

He’s to be sentenced July 9.

According to Schuette, the embezzlement over $50,000 count will be dismissed if Weishuhn pays restitution to the victims. Weishuhn is in the process of selling the funeral home in Standish, about 25 miles north of Bay City.
