TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie’s administration has told a court that it will take public comment and re-submit regulations to remove the state from a regional agreement to set limits on emissions by fossil fuel-burning power plants.
Christie withdrew the state from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in 2011, saying it was a failed public policy and a burden to taxpayers.
Environmental groups sued.
In March, an appeals panel ruled that the state did not follow all the provisions to repeal regulations tied to the agreement.
According to a letter to the court last week, the Environmental Protection Department is planning to comply with the court ruling and will propose a new rule in July. The department will take public comment on the issue after that.
