ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque’s public school district is seeing a spike in teacher retirements and resignations.

School district data show a nearly 19 percent increase in retirement filings as of early May over last year and a 44 percent increase over the year before that.

Meanwhile, non-retirement departures are up by 13 percent from last year and 32 percent from the year before that.

The Albuquerque Journal (https://bit.ly/1inKF35 ) reports that some teachers cite the state’s new evaluation system and state-mandated exams as contributing to their decisions to retire or design.
