GARY, Ind. (AP) - Police say a driver lost control of a vehicle on a Gary street and struck seven children and two adults.

Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram tells the Post-Tribune none of the victims suffered serious injuries from the Tuesday afternoon crash, although all nine were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Police say the vehicle hit the pedestrians after jumping a street curb near the business district of the city’s Miller neighborhood along Lake Michigan. Those hit included a 3-month-old, a 21-month-old and five other children ranging from 3 to 11 years old.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King tells The Times of Munster that drug and alcohol tests were being conducted on the 62-year-old driver. The driver and his passenger also were being checked out at a hospital.
