NEW YORK (AP) - A state audit has found that a New York city special education school spent over $3 million in improper expenses.

The audit by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says the Churchill School and Center in Manhattan took advantage of programs and laws that send public money to private schools.

Education officials said they would comply with the audit’s recommendation that future payments be reduced to make up for the overcharges.
