BRANDON, Vt. (AP) - The outgoing superintendent of the Burlington schools has been offered a position in the Rutland area.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1mvpnD3 ) reports that the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union Board has unanimously approved the hiring of Jeanne Collins as superintendent on a one-year contract.

Collins resigned under pressure earlier this month after an independent report commissioned by the School Board revealed her office had been making budget errors.

The chair of the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union Board said Wednesday that Collins, who was named superintendent of the year in 2011, is a dedicated veteran educational leader. She said Collins impressed the board with her comprehensive knowledge of educational issues and passion for successful outcomes for all students.

Collins is to step down in Burlington on June 30.
