NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) - The Newport Aquarium is celebrating a pair of newly hatched king penguin chicks.

The chicks aren’t related but both eggs were laid April 4. The aquarium says they simultaneously began to pip last Friday evening and fully hatched Saturday morning.

The aquarium plans to give the public a chance to name the chicks via the Newport Aquarium Facebook page beginning Friday.

The king penguin is the second largest species of penguin in the world, with adults growing to more than 3 feet in height. Only 16 institutions in the U.S. exhibit king penguins.

Newport Aquarium has shown king penguins since opening to the public in May 1999, originally exhibiting king penguins acquired from Adventure World near Shirahama, Japan.
