WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he admitted he threw a Molotov cocktail inside a crowded grocery store in 2011.
Fabian Torres pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted aggravated arson and received the maximum sentence as part of a deal with prosecutors. He was sentenced Thursday in McHenry County.
Torres was a former employee at Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market in Algonquin when investigators say he threw the lit glass bottle filled with flammable liquid near the store’s crowded deli counter about a month No one was seriously injured.
The 27-year-old from Sleepy Hollow was also ordered to pay more than $9,000 in restitution.
