UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (AP) - A University City Council candidate’s six-vote win in an April municipal election has been confirmed a recount.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/RM1f5B ) reports that the St. Louis County Election Board on Thursday verified Rod Jennings’ narrow victory over Bwayne Smotherson in the city’s third ward. Smotherson sought the recount after the April 8 election.

The election board says its recount upheld the original vote totals of 587 for Jennings and 581 for Smotherson. Three write-in votes were deemed invalid.

Jennings succeeds long-time Councilman Byron Price, who did not seek re-election.
