CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Registration for the 2014 New Hampshire moose hunt lottery is now closed.

Entries had to be postmarked or delivered to Fish and Game headquarters by the end of Friday. Online registrations closed at midnight.

Fish and Game spokeswoman Jane Vachon says as many as 10 percent of hunters entering the lottery wait until the last minute to sign up.

Last year, more than 13,000 hunters entered the lottery.

The state is offering 124 permits this year, down sharply from the 275 issued in recent years. That’s because New Hampshire’s moose population had dropped from a peak of about 7,600 in 1996 to about 4,400 now.

Winners of those permits will be chosen June 20.

Moose hunting season this year runs from Oct. 18 to Oct. 26.
