ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - Seaside City Councilor Rafael “Stubby” Lyons has resigned after nearly 14 years on the council.

Lyons turns 80 in September. He told The Daily Astorian (https://is.gd/VYD6uS ) he’s at a point in his life when family matters have become very important.

He turned in his official letter of resignation last week and it’s effective immediately.

Lyons moved to Seaside in 1980 as a coach and teacher for Seaside High School. He plans to stay in the area.
