LAROSE, La. (AP) - Lafourche Parish school district officials say construction on the South Larose Elementary School is running four weeks ahead of schedule.

The site of the $9.5 million project is directly behind the existing Larose Upper Elementary building. Site administrator Evan Plaisance tells The Courier (https://bit.ly/1jut5Og) work on the new building began in the fall and has been coming along smoothly.

When the building is ready, Plaisance says workers will begin dismantling the current Larose Upper Elementary, which will likely take eight months to a year.

Larose Upper Elementary enrolls third through fifth grades and has around 300 students. The new 54,000-square-foot facility has about 24 classrooms and is expected to have an estimated 360 students, grades pre-K through fifth, enrolled next school year.
