AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A former employee at an Augusta juvenile detention center has pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1j50nUO ) 24-year-old Shawn Tice pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday. Prosecutors say the drugs were split into 10 bags and were found along with a handgun in his car during a random check on Sept. 3, 2011.

A judge sentenced Tice to five years of probation and 100 hours of community service. Officials recommended probation because of Tice’s help with a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into the facility.

A teen was beaten to death at the center in November 2011. Five teens led police on a chase after escaping in October 2012, and a teen was severely beaten by another inmate in December 2012.
